History

The 1979 Revolution in Iran replaced the Shah with The Islamic Republic.  Prior to the revolution, Iran was the most modernized country in the Middle East, with very good relations with the West.  However, since the revolution, the Islamic regime has dictated every aspect of life in Iran and turned the country into a radically religious state.

Throughout the past 30+ years there have been several movements, some larger than others, but all ending with the regime cracking down in an inhumane manner, destroying the opposition.

Current

On June 12, 2009, the Presidential elections were held in Iran.  While there were several candidates, the election was primarily between the incumbent, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and opponent Mir Hossein Mousavi.   When the results of the election were announced, Ahmadinejad was proclaimed winner.  The voting public cried fraud when Ahmadinejad claimed to have won by more than 11 million votes, 3 million more than the total registered voters.  Moreover, hours after the election, the Basij (a militia force loyal only to the supreme religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei) seized all the ballots.  In the days following the election, people all over Iran gathered in enormous peaceful demonstrations, wearing green, the color symbolizing Mousavi, and marching in silence to signify that their vote was not heard.  Since then, the regime has yet again started to suppress the opposition through murder, unjust imprisonment, and torture.

Currently in Iran, there is neither freedom of speech nor press.  Any person involved with the opposition, in any manner, is at threat. The regime is trying to silence the opposition, without consideration to the cost of human lives.  The international press is now prohibited to broadcast from within Iran and have been told to leave. Ordinary people now provide all of the media coverage seen around the world.  These people put their lives at great risk to get this information to all the countries in the world.

Help us help these people. It is unbelievable that in our day and age this sort of injustice is still in existence. We cannot let the sacrifices of those who have perished so far be in vein. We will not give up; it is time for change!

Now is the time!

We need to unite, and support our brothers and sisters who are sacrificing their lives because they have realized that a life without freedom is a life not worth living...

After 30 years of suffering under a regime that has dictated every aspect of a country and its citizens, the people have now risen stronger than ever. Democracy is no longer a dream worth wishing for, but a reality worth fighting for.

Millions of us Iranians are now living outside our native country, and our capability to support our countrymen is limited. However, it is not only our obligation, but our duty to support them in anyway possible, that is why we have created this website. In comparison to those who sacrifice their lives for what they believe in we can only offer a fraction. Do whatever you can, use Twitter, Facebook, or any other method to communicate your moral support. Join the many peaceful demonstrations in order to get the attention of the governments around the world, and make them understand that we will no longer stand on the sideline and disregard the inhumanity that the regime is imposing on our brothers and sisters.

These freedom bracelets are an ornament of your support, displaying your courage to stand for what you believe in. It unmistakably shows your commitment to support those who are sacrificing their very lives to gain freedom and democracy for Iran. More importantly, all the proceeds go towards the many in need. The students who march the streets, the reporters who believe in freedom of press and consequently have lost their jobs, for the mothers and wives who have lost their husbands and sons in the struggle and no longer have any means to an income, and the many others who have committed their lives to fight for democracy in Iran. It takes so little to contribute so much, so lend a helping hand…

Please, do not shrug this off like another sad story that you can’t do anything about, because you can! Ask yourself what your life would without the many virtues of living in a democratic society. And then imagine someone you love facing an army with weapons, armed with nothing but an idea and words. And lastly, ask yourself if you would turn your back to this person and simply walk away.
